ivee can now provide instant, voice-enabled access to bitcoin, litecoin, and dogecoin pricing provided by BitcoinShop.us. For example, you can ask ivee, “What’s the current price of bitcoin?” and she’ll respond with the most up-to-date price in dollars.

Since summer is wrapping up, we thought it was time to give you an update on what we’ve been working on here at ivee headquarters!

WeMo and Hue Discovery Issues Resolved!

We’re happy to say that we’ve resolved the WeMo and Hue activation issues that some of you encountered. We’re sorry for the frustration, and we hope you enjoy the new experience!

ivee will now automatically discover and connect to any WeMo switches or Hue lights that are on her local network. People who have used it love it! If you’ve been waiting to try this out, wait no longer!

ivee Platform Developer Signup Has Begun

The ivee Platform APIs are well underway, and a beta release is scheduled for late September. We’re so excited for the developer community to get its hands on the ivee Platform. We know you’ll create amazing voice apps!

Since we sent out the announcement of the private beta release, over 100 of you have signed up for our developer program! The official beta documentation will be available in mid-September, but we’ve already sent out alpha docs to several especially eager developers. If you are interested in the developer program, please send an email to developer@helloivee.com!

Other Features in the Works

We’ve also been working away on some features that we’re not yet ready to announce. These include one highly requested feature, an awesome new partnership, and a more robust version of an existing feature! We can’t wait to share more with you when the time comes.

We have good news to share!

WeMo Switch and WeMo Insight Switch, ivee’s Latest Buddies

For those who are unfamiliar, the WeMo Switch is a Wi-Fi enabled smart plug that lets you turn on and off electronic devices from anywhere. And after much anticipation, we are happy to announce that ivee can now control your WeMo Switch and WeMo Insight Switch!

Once linked to your ivee account, you can name your WeMo devices in the ivee portal and turn them on and off by voice. The naming capability is especially useful because it allows you to name each switch according to what you have plugged in to it. We know many of you have been looking forward to WeMo integration for quite some time, so we are happy to release it to you! WEP Wi-Fi Password Support

The latest firmware now supports WEP Wi-Fi passwords (in addition to WPA and WPA2). We do not recommend using WEP passwords because they are not secure, but we understand that some users are using older routers that do not support newer security standards like WPA and WPA2. So for those of you stuck with WEP as your only choice, we hope this latest update makes it easier for you to connect your ivee to any Wi-Fi network.

Enable/Disable Voice Control for Hue and WeMo

Some users have requested that we allow them to disable voice control for their Hue, so we created a button in the ivee portal that lets you do just that. This is ideal for devices that you don’t intend to control via voice. You are free to disable and re-enable voice control for Hue and WeMo devices as many times as you’d like.

Philips Hue Integration

ivee can now can control Philips Hue, the wireless, color-changing lighting system. We know many of you have been eagerly anticipating Hue integration for a while, so we are very happy to release it to you. Lowe’s Iris, Now Controlled by ivee and Your Voice 

ivee is now fully integrated with Iris, the smart home management system from Lowe’s. Iris is a complete home automation platform, so connecting it with ivee allows you to voice control a wide array of devices including security systems, lights, thermostats, garage doors, cameras, window blinds, and so much more. This particular integration has been in the works for a long time, so it is especially gratifying to release it to you now. Accuracy, Speed, and Stock Quote Improvements

 As some of you have already noticed, ivee’s accuracy and speed have increased over the last month. You can expect that trend to continue. We’ve also added a few more companies to ivee’s Stocks knowledge base. We want to make sure that you can get quotes from the companies you care about., so feel free to email us or post a comment below with any company that you would like us to add. Keep in mind that ivee recognizes company names, not ticker symbols.

Belkin WeMo Integration Coming Soon

 We know you are eager to control your WeMo devices by voice, so we are hard at work making that happen. We are on track to release WeMo integration by early July.

The ivee Web Platform is Under Construction! 

We are hard at work on a collection of APIs that we collectively call the ivee Web Platform. This platform will enable third-party developers to create voice apps for ivee that can do everything from controlling new smart home devices to retrieving movie times and everything in between. We are making significant progress, and we will make more detailed announcements as we get closer to release.

We’ve been busily working away, and we have some new developments to announce!

NEW FEATURE

SmartThings Integration (Alpha)

We’ve completed an initial SmartThings integration, which allows you to link your ivee account to your SmartThings account and toggle on/off any device that supports the ‘switching’ capability. We know that many of you are very excited to use ivee with SmartThings, so we want to make it clear that this is just the beginning! We plan to support several new capabilities per week until we have comprehensive support for the SmartThings API. If you have a SmartThings account, please link it to your ivee account and give it a whirl! We are eager to hear what you think.

IMPROVEMENTS

Enhanced Nest Support

Users with multiple Nest thermostats can now control all of them with ivee. We also resolved an issue related to temperatures in Celsius and improved stability overall. Support for range mode will be added soon.

Set Default Location with Canada Postcodes 

In addition to US ZIP codes, we’ve added support for Canada postcodes. Users in Canada can now set their default location using their local Canada postcode in the format of XXX-XXX (e.g 1A1-A1A).

Web Interface for ZIP/Postcodes in ivee Portal

In case you are having trouble getting ivee to distinguish your 8’s from your A’s, or 3’s & C’s, the ivee portal now allows you to enter your postal code manually with your keyboard. Go to the “My Account” page to enter and clear your default postal code.

Tell Me Something

Also, just for fun, we’ve added more “Tell Me Something” facts.

February has been busy! We’ve been hard at work adding new features, squashing bugs, and making improvements to every aspect of ivee. Your feedback has been essential in this process, and we’re excited to release this update to you. Here is what’s live as of today (Feb 28):

NEW FEATURES

Staples Connect Integration

ivee now is officially supported by Staples Connect version 1.2, which was just deployed to the iOS App Store and Google Play. With this integration, you can now use ivee to activate Staples Connect activities that you configure to your liking. For example, you could link the command “Good Night” to turning off all lights, locking all doors, and turning up the thermostat to 72. The full list of predefined commands can be found athttp://my.helloivee.com/commands/staples_connect.

More Accurate Geolocation Using ZIP Codes

Improving the accuracy of ivee’s built in geolocation has been a top request, so we are excited to release this feature. You can now set your default location by giving ivee your 5-digit ZIP code. Once supplied, ivee will use your ZIP code as your default location for weather forecasts and other location-based commands. For example, you could say, “Set my ZIP code to 90210,“ and your location would then default to Beverly Hills. To clear your ZIP code, just say, “Clear my ZIP code.”

IMPROVEMENTS

Kickstarter Backer Bios

Wake-Up Greeting

You can now turn on and off ivee’s Wake-Up Greeting with simple voice commands. With Wake-Up Greeting turned on, ivee will greet you (e.g “Good afternoon!”), tell you the current time, date, and indoor temperature. Wake-Up Greeting was turned on by default, but now you can turn it on and off as you wish, by saying, “Turn (On/Off) Wake-Up Greeting.” This feature was long overdue, so we appreciate your patience!

BUG FIXES

Nest Integration

ivee can now control single Nest thermostats reliably, including the ability to turn on and off your fan. Full support for multiple Nest thermostats (and multiple Nest structures) is soon to follow!

Weather in Remote Locations

The weather in some smaller cities, including ‘Tamarindo, Costa Rica’ can now be queried successfully. This combined with ZIP code support should provide a much better weather experience.

Time/Date in Other Locations

The time/date in other locations can now be queried once again after a temporary service outage.

We want to give you a few updates as to what improvements are being made on the ivee platform and when you can expect ivee integrating with more connected devices and platforms!

CONNECTED DEVICE & PLATFORM INTEGRATIONS

We’ve been working around the clock and as fast as we can to integrate with more connected devices (and platforms). Here is an updated schedule with a projection as to when we will finish the following integrations:

3 IMPROVEMENTS THAT WE’RE MAKING!

In addition to the the new integrations, we’re listening to your feedback, and we’re actively working on 3 improvements that will help with Weather, FM Radio, and the Temperature Sensor. 

1. Weather 

Some of you have reported that when you say “Weather,” ivee doesn’t know your city. We’re going to enable you to set your default location by zip code. This will allow ivee to know exactly what city you’re in.

2. FM Radio 

Ok, we understand. The FM radio does not work well. We didn’t want to compromise the overall look/feel of ivee with an external wire antenna, so we made the decision to use an internal antenna. Unfortunately, the reception is not adequate for a majority of you. Don’t worry, we’re looking into a streaming music service (like Pandora, Spotify, or TuneIn Radio) to make up for the lack of FM radio (signal strength). We will keep you posted as this progresses. 

3. Temperature Sensor 

We’re working on a solution now that will allow ivee to fetch a more accurate reading of the internal temperature in your house, using your connected thermostat. In the beginning, this will only work with Nest Thermostats, but this will expand as we connect more thermostats to ivee.

Developed by Interactive Voice, ivee Sleek allows users to connect it to their favorite Wi-Fi devices and view them through their computer, tablet or smartphone.

STAPLES CONNECT

As some of you are already aware, we are now actively integrating with Staples Connect, Staples’ new connected home platform. Check out their smart home initiative here:http://www.staples.com/sbd/cre/marketing/staples-connect/

This is a powerful addition to the ivee ecosystem because it will allow ivee to control a ton of new devices! Also, with Staples Connect, you will be able to create “scenes,” which allow you to control multiple devices with a simple voice command. For example, you could create a scene called “Good Night,” and then say “Good Night” to ivee, which would then turn off all your lights, lock your front door, lower the shades in your bedroom, and adjust your thermostat to a nice 70 degrees.

Today, the Staples Connect system works with a wide array of popular products like Honeywell thermostats, Lutron light switches, Philip’s Hue light bulbs, Serena shades, and Schlage locks. By integrating Staples Connect in your my.helloivee.com portal, you will be able to pull in the “scene” names and data into your ivee so ivee can help you execute these commands.

IVEE

Now that the hardware and firmware are complete, we are in the final stages of server software QA testing. All future device updates will be pushed via ivee’s auto-update system. The auto-update system is an OTA (over the air) process that automatically keeps your ivee up-to-date with the latest system software.

In addition, we’ve been testing daily and working on improving performance (latency) and accuracy. AT&T recently built a new data center and we are actively working & testing with them to improve ivee’s response time.

INTEGRATION UPDATE

Nest - we are waiting for the public API to become available to us. We have an unofficial (non-public) integration in place already that we’ve been testing internally with. It’s very cool!

Philip’s Hue - available now via Staples Connect. We’ll connect directly to their API before March 2014.
